The Nauvoo Pageant Work Crew consists of 20 able-bodied single young men, ages 17-25, who serve as site workers and technical support for the pageant. Applicants should be spiritually and emotionally mature young men preparing for or having served fulltime missions and recommended by their bishops for this unique opportunity. Participants on the work crew will be assigned a district and will participate in daily required missionary preparation class, devotionals, and pageant meetings. All work crew members will be expected to observe missionary standards, including personal grooming (a missionary haircut and a clean-shaven face).
Work crew members will assist with some technical elements of the pageant, including the stage, props, lighting, site, and Frontier Country Fair. Crew members will work closely with pageant staff and cast members. Crew members may serve on either of the two crews (see schedule below). Service on the work crew is physically demanding, and those accepted must be medically certified to be in excellent physical condition to withstand the strain of long work days (12-16 hours) outdoors in heat and high humidity. Accepted work crew members will also need to provide proof of primary insurance coverage and those under 21 will need a signed parental/guardian permission form. Work crew members will also have opportunities to participate in cast activities, including youth baptismal sessions at the Nauvoo Temple. Crew members will need to bring their own temple recommends in order to participate.
Work crew members are responsible to arrange their own transportation to and from Nauvoo and to cover the cost of their housing, meals, and all personal expenses. The crew will be housed in apartment units with kitchens and a single bathroom. The work crew will be housed together and will be under the supervision of the work crew directors. Each crew member will need to bring their own personal toiletries and linens. Crew members will be fed lunch and dinner as well as an evening snack after performances. Breakfast food will be provided for the crew members in each apartment.
